Today was a day of domesticity.

It started at 7ish with the arrival of the KinderBatt and was productive for the most of it.

  • I have managed to wash, and dry, most of my laundry. No mean feat on a day like today.
  • I chased of a trio of wild dogs that were harassing my bunnies…okay so it was a jack russell and two chihuahas.
  • I took Google Chrome for a test drive and may very well be converted
  • I herded escaped bunnies in the rain. (The lunchtime storm was so strong it vibrated open the catch on the rabbit run…either that or the wild dogs have developed opposable thumbs and undid it.)
  • I made two yummy soups.
  • I made a marinade for my lamb roast which is now cooking slowly.

The Red KinderBatt was happy to play xbox on his own most of the day, surfacing only for feeding times and when his curiosity got the better of him.

RKB: What you doing?
ME: I’m making pumpkin soup.
RKB: Oh. (pause) It won’t be as nice as my mums.
ME: … Oh, I know. I’ve tasted your mums pumpkin soup.

Okay, so then the 4 year old gives me his pumpkin soup recipe…

RKB: Do you know what is an easy way to make punkin soup?
ME: No. Tell me.
RKB: You just take punkin, right.
RKB: And jam, and jelly beans.
ME: Jelly beans? really?
RKB: Yup. And toast.
ME: …
RKB: And a hand.
ME: A hand??
RKB: That is easy punkin soup.
ME: Uh…cool. Do you have a hand I can use?

He didn’t…

Recommendations wanted…

One of the things I have been trying to do since (tentatively) retiring, is catch up on reading and movie watching.

My problem is, particularly with movies, there is so much that I haven’t watched that I don’t know where to start…I have a basic idea of the kind of movie I would like to see, but then I go to make a decision I get a little overwhelmed…

Take Shakespeare for instance. I read ‘The Complete Works’ works a million years ago when I was back in high school, but I don’t think I have ever really seen a movie (Apart from Baz Luhrmann’s R&J)…Now, I know there are numerous movie adaptations of Shakespeare’s works, and I would really like to watch some. The question is which ones?

So I throw the question out there…

Which movie adaptations do you think are the best?

Which do think are the most accurate?

Which is your favourite/s?

And in a few weeks I will probably recycle this post exactly and change Shakespeare to Austen or Bronte.

On Birthdays…

I don’t celebrate birthdays. I never have. Crumbs, most of the time I forget them anyway…well, everyone else’s I do. Not mine 🙂 But then, I’m an April Fool so I kind of get reminded about it. I think it was about three years ago that I received my one and only ever birthday present in my life, and only once have I ever done anything to…commemorate it. The day I turned 18 I went in to Liquorland and bought a bottle of Baileys and a bottle of…Advocaat I think it was. I’m not sure what happened to the Advocaat, but I *know* I only got one or two drinks out of the Baileys.

Tomorrow, my baby girl turns 18. It’s scary and exciting and worrying and everything, all at the same time. For those of you who have met her, she is a very young 18. But she has been counting down until she can go out for a drink. So tomorrow night battblush and I are going to hit the town with her…well, we’ll take her for a couple of drinks anyway.
