An exciting part of my week…

August 30, 2009 Ka'ela Ja'el

So that was the Mehness of the week. There were moments of excitement though.

We breed rabbits. Well, we have rabbits, and they do what rabbits do. Our white female, Alice, had a litter of 6 about two weeks ago. We came home on Wednesday to find that three of the kittens buried, and one who looked like he had been buried. One was very dead, but two were still breathing. The black one was still warm, and the white one was like ice.

So I did what I could to warm them up, while Tusk made an emergency run to the pet shop for milk and feeding implements. The little black one passed away quite quickly, but the white one hung on for several hours. Snuggling him for body warmth wasn’t enough, so I wrapped him in a towel and put him in the oven. And this worked for quite a while. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the strength to swallow and he died after several hours 😦

So that left us three kittens – a black one, a white one, and a brindle one that looked like it had been fathered by a staffordshire bull terrier – I’m not kidding! It was this one that looked like he had been buried as well. He has pulled through pretty well, although at one point we thought he had lost an eye, (prompting Tusk to want to call him Popeye!) and while the eye is still there, we wouldn’t be surprised if he is blind…there is definitely something wrong with him. So, we’re giving him supplemental hand feeding and doing what we can.

What this does mean, is that it looks like we now have a house bunny. Possibly two – after all he might need a brother/sister to play with. So we are trying out names – at the moment Bailey is looking good.
A surprise friending on facebook from an old girlfriend that I’d lost touch with.

Now, I must go feed Bailey…
